Spitfire (Linocut Print)
A hand-carved, hand-printed Linocut Print, limited to only 200 editions.
Carved in May 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. It’s so important to remember these things, to acknowledge the sacrifices made across the world... In many ways there are parallels with what’s happening today with the Covid-19 Pandemic; although with coronavirus we are, at least, united against a common enemy.
The Spitfire is, at least in the UK, the most iconic emblem of WW2 - plus I’ve been meaning to do a Linocut of this beautiful aircraft for a while anyway! The airflow isn’t exactly scientific - I was trying to recall me as a Flight Sergeant teaching RAF cadets ‘Principles of Flight’ from far too many decades ago! It’s not quite Bernoulli’s principle: “As speed increases, pressure decreases”, but it’s my artistic interpretation thereof!
Each purchase will include a 10% donation to the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) - a registered charity providing support to anyone in the RAF family, whether they are currently serving, a veteran or a family member. You can find out more about the work of the charity on their website: www.rafa.org.uk.
ITEM SPECIFICS:
This design is a signed, limited edition of only 200 prints. As with all handmade items, each one will vary slightly, making it completely unique.
It is printed with water-based ink on 120 gsm paper that is bright white with a matt surface, approximately 250x350mm in size. This paper is wood free and has been bleached without chlorine. I use only water-based ink for environmental reasons.
The image itself measures roughly 210x150mm.
