Kanye (Linocut Print)
*Previously on sale for £45, now £25!*
My signed and limited edition Kanye West Linocut Print “dropped” into my website at the same time as his long-awaited for new album, "Donda" - named after his Mum.
However, the words "I Feel Like Pablo" were inspired by his 2016 album "The Life of Pablo" and specifically the track "No More Parties in LA":
"I feel like Pablo when I'm workin' on my shoes
I feel like Pablo when I see me on the news
I feel like Pablo when I'm workin' on my house
Tell 'em party's in here, we don't need to go out"
Kanye is a master of double or, in this case, even treble meanings. In his 2015 University of Oxford lecture, Kanye explained: "My goal, if I was going to do art, fine art, would have been to become Picasso or greater", yet in these lyrics it is suggested that he moves from referencing Picasso initially; to then St. Paul/San Pablo who is often considered to be the most important person after Jesus in the history of Christianity; and also Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar - who infamously built his own prison in the 1990s to serve a 5 year sentence. The 'prison' was a luxurious mansion which included a full soccer field, a bar, and a waterfall, and Escobar's friends and family could visit and party anytime.
